ADULT FAITH FORMATIONWe begin a new series today titled, “Grafted into the Olive Tree – Christianity’s Jewish Heritage.” You’re invited to come to this uplifting, energetic time of learning in the Library between worship services on Sundays, beginning about 10:15 and ending at 10:55.

CHILDREN’S FAITH FORMATION/SUNDAY SCHOOL – for age 3-3rd grade continues! Our Faith Formation program is designed for children to be able to drop in any time they happen to be here.  We’d love to have your child join us!

QUILTS AND PERSONAL CARE KITS SUNDAY – Our team of quilters prepared the quilts adorning the Sanctuary today for those who need them both locally and around the world, through Lutheran World Relief. Thank you to all of you who provided the money, fabric, and sheets needed for this mission.  If you would like to be part of this endeavor come join us!  We meet the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 10am-2pm. Have fun, tie knots and eat lunch – not so hard. Thank you also to who everyone who contributed money and materials for the Personal Care Kits.  Each kit includes a towel, two soaps, nail clippers, a comb and a toothbrush.  This year we assembled 156 Care Kits that will all go to Lutheran World Relief for shipment around the world. Cash contributions for materials and shipping costs (.75 per pound) are always welcome. If you have questions about either of these programs, please call Sandra Volkman 425-644-9604.

CONGREGATIONS FOR THE HOMELESS RETURNS MONDAY Cross of Christ will once again host the men of Congregations for the Homeless for the month of May. LEGACY PLANNING SEMINAR – What kind of legacy do you want to leave? Do you have a will, living trust, power of attorney, and medical directives to make sure your end of life wishes are carried out?  What conversations should you have with your children and other family members about these issues? Does the church or pastor know what kind of funeral or memorial service you desire, what your favorite hymns are? An informative presentation sponsored by the Cross of Christ Endowment Board will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 9 am. A sign-up sheet is available at the Information Desk. We strongly encourage you to attend and bring your adult children and/or other family members with you. For questions, please see Hal Mills or Linda Capron.

JUNE KARSTEDT MEMORIAL SERVICE – Saturday, June 14, 1:30 pm, in the Sanctuary, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.  Members of Cross of Christ are invited.

TANZANIA TEAM MISSION Part of our mission is to bring needed items to the girl’s school. We are asking for donations for the following items: jewelry findings- stainless steel/ sterling silver earring hooks, barrel clasps, O-rings, (these can be found at JoAnne Fabric, Michaels with coupons), battery -operated smoke alarms for dormitories (can be found at Costco, First Alert that are good for 10 years), school supplies such as new pencils, new pink erasers, rulers, black pens, compasses, protractors (found at Dollars stores), and stethoscopes. Monetary donations are always accepted.  You can make a check to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Tanzania Mission. If you have questions call Mary Mehlum – 425-281-1967. Thank you for your help.

JOIN US AT THE BALLPARK The LARKS are organizing an outing to Safeco Field for Sunday, September 4, to watch the Mariners play the Los Angeles Angels from our own private suite complete with great food! Carpools will leave from Cross of Christ. Sign up at the information desk. SOPHIA WAY UPDATE – Front desk volunteer needed Mondays 12:30 to 4 pm.  This is at the new offices at 11061 NE 2nd St in Bellevue.   The ‘Give BIG’ campaign is Tuesday, and Sophia Way has matching funds available up to $5,000.  This year honor your mother on Mother’s Day with a donation to the eastside homeless women’s shelter, through the ‘Give BIG’ website –  https://givebig.seattlefoundation.org/ You can follow all of the progress of Sophia Way through their website:  http://sophiaway.org/latest-news/

EASTSIDE WINTER SHELTER FOR WOMEN AND FAMILIES – The current shelter is at Overlake Park Presbyterian, 1836 156th Ave NE, Bellevue.  Meals are still needed. Contact them via www.tinyurl.com/wintershelter15-16. The shelter is also in need of feminine hygiene products, diapers of all sizes, and blankets, which can be dropped off at Overlake Park Presbyterian.
